Developing and enforcing internal information systems standards: InduMaker’s Standards Management Process

It is widely agreed that standards provide numerous benefits when available and enforced. Company-internal Information Systems (IS) management procedures solutions, in the following coined IS ‘standards’, allow for harmonizing operations between company units, locations even different service providers. However, many companies lack an organized process defining managing internal standards, which causes uncertainties delays decision making, planning, design processes. In this case study of globally operating InduMaker (anonymized name), established manufacturing supplier, we look into company-internal standards. Theoretically grounded organizational IS-focused literature on business modelling commoditization, describe investigate InduMaker’s newly developed Standard Management Process (SMP) with multinational pursues offering clear answers to IT departments about existing their degree obligation, applicability, scope at any time.
